What we are doing to take care of ourselves at the moment!

I don’t know why, but I always find myself with the overwhelming urge to open every new blog post with “on todays episode of” or “hey guys, welcome back to my channel” haha. It is very obvious that I spent a lot of my teen years watching at home makeup tutorials on YouTube. Anyway, without any further explanation, welcome to yet another blog post.

Something I really wanted to talk about is self care in the busy schedule of our lives and what Brit and I are currently incorporating into our routines to support us thriving in the world.

I am absolutely so guilty of being the kind of gal that future plans and schedules things in both in my work life and in my personal like up to 12 weeks ahead. Oh, you want to catch up with me? Awesome, I can fit you in for 30 mins on October 12th at 4:45 hun x
With that being said, especially as we head toward Christmas when calendars do start to get busy and my work life is in the thick of bridal season- something I am prioritising as self care is just saying NO. I often think this is a practice that is overlooked as self care. There is so much out there that markets the benefits of saying yes and jumping at opportunities and for me personally, FOMO gets the better of me. I forget the power of rest is equally important in my world as the power of joy which are both things I need to keep myself consistent.

One thing I lost a lot in the last few years which was one of my favourite self care things was a regular brow appointment. I know, this sounds crazy…. As if a beauty therapist needs a brow appointment… But, it’s like the age old tale of the plumber who has the leaky tap in his house that never gets fixed or the cleaner who has the messiest house. I used to get my brows done religiously! Every 4 weeks on the dot without fail and I loved it! When I started working in beauty, it then became a bit tricky because the team and I would do each other's brows outside of work hours. Who wants to come in early or stay back late from work? I could never be bothered and before I knew it, 3 months had passed and my little brows had gotten so hairy and out of shape I couldn’t even fill them in properly. Luckily for me, Morgan and I have both committed to a regular brow appointment so you can catch us looking cute as hell in with our tidy brows in the future.

The last thing that I’m doing to take care of myself at the moment is making an effort to use a sauna at least once a week. Since I had covid for the second time earlier this year, I have definitely seen my immune system take a hit. It’s literally so annoying to me that I feel like I’ve caught every cold, flu and bug this year when historically I would get a flu maybe once a year max? My biggest flex when I started working at The Beauty Bar was that I would never get sick, and that’s clearly not the case anymore. So, I am supporting my immune system and detoxing any nasty stuff out in the sauna at least once a week. The infrared sauna has so many benefits to regular use including promoting healing, blood flow and relieving stress so I definitely think having at least 30 minutes in there once a week will help boost my immune system and improve my overall health.
